8–12 weeks before move day

This is when availability and pricing are still on your side — especially if you're not moving in peak season (May–September).

1. Set your move date and rough budget (try our cost calculator)
2. Research neighborhoods at your destination
3. Get quotes from at least three movers or compare DIY options
4. Give landlord notice or list your home if selling
5. Start decluttering — every box you don't move saves money

4–8 weeks before

6. Book your mover or reserve truck/container
7. Order packing supplies (estimate boxes needed)
8. Start USPS mail forwarding
9. Plan utility shutoff at current home + setup at new address
10. Update insurance quotes for your new address

1–4 weeks before
